The Mumbai-based South India Education Society (SIES) which has promoted the management institute believes strongly in blending tradition with modernity. Keeping this in view the institute for management promoted by the society has achieved the enviable record of producing managers sensitive to the community needs as well as acliieving a high degree of professionalism. The institute has on its own merit rose to become one of the formidable institutes of management in the country counted among the best in its genre.
The institute envisions bringing about further change over the next three to five years blending and experimenting with a complete new course curriculum and teaching methodology which not only grooms students as managers also make them responsive citizens and leaders of reckoning in the society. Possibly that will mean shut from standard teaching of text books to more of experiential learning and hands-on experience with the real world. At the core of the above research is going to be the focus. When the institute talks about research, it is not about pure theoretical research but applied research depending on the needs of the corporate and society at large. The institute also wants to adopt a “Cafeteria approach” akin to some of the western universities whereby even the non-management subjects like music, arts and culture, etc, will be offered as a part of the elective. This would help the students to develop themselves into full-fledged human being with both scientific approach and artistic thinking. SIES hopes this will distinguish the school from other business schools.
The SIES College of Management Studies (SIESCOMS) was promoted in 1995 by the South Indiana Education Society (SIES), one of the oldest and value-based trusts in existence since 1932. During its 10 years of existence SIESCOMS has come to be known as one of the innovative and progressive business schools in the country. The flagship programmes of the institute include Masters in Management Studies (MMS), a two-year full-time management programme affiliated to the University of Mumbai, Masters in Computers Application (MCA), a three-year full-tune technology focused programme affiliated to the Mumbai University, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA), and a 21-month full-time autonomous management programme, Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Management (PGDPM), a 21-month full-time management programme on pharmaceutical management.

ITM Mumbai belongs to the multi-location ITM group of business schools of Warangal which has in a short period of decade emerged as one of the strongest business schools network in the country. The ethos of the school is to develop managers with global exposure in order to take up the challenges of internationalization of Indian economy and business. The institute has established a series of tieups with foreign universities and Indian institutions to ensure that there is ample opportunity for faculty and student exchanges, exposure to state of the art technology and business practice in India and abroad and a consciousness of high level of quality among the student managers.
The tie up with Southern New Hampshire University situated in Manchester north of Boston, USA has enabled regular faculty and administrators interactions with one of oldest and largest management education departments of the US. As a result, out of the 36 courses required for the MBA programme, 30 have been fully evaluated and found equivalent to any US course and ITM students can go to USA and complete the MBA by taking only 6 to 8 courses. Likewise the tie up with Ecole Superieure des Sciences Commerciales d’ Angers (France and Hungary) - ESSCA has helped in getting batches of students to take up eight week interships with these two countries. Likewise, another tie up EDHEC Grand Ecole of France which offers the famous “THESEUS” MBA has helped the ITM students to take up a four week programme “strategies of Europe” which is also attended by students of Harvard, Stanford, MIT ec, The tie up also allow the ITM students to take up studies in York University, Canada, Fudan University, Shanghai and EDHEC, France. A tie up with ISEP a French Federal University specializing in Software and Information Technology helps the MBA students who are taking the Information Technology Management option to go for one semester to France. Another tie up with Tongji University Shanghai enables the students to take up “doing business in China”
Berufsakademie is established in southern Germany, by over 60 large companies such as Mercedes Benz, Siemens etc to provide practical working Managers to the German Industry. This programme involve six months’ study in college and six months work experience in industry. The first of such programmes for ITM-MBA students will be launched in 2005.
Reliance Life Sciences Pvt Ltd
Reliance Life Sciences (RLS) is a millennium initiative of the Reliance Group. The Group initially has invested $5 million in setting up facilities in cell biology in Mumbai. And the embryonic stem cell work began in April 2001.
The Reliance Industries Ltd will be investing about $25 million in cell biology research to focus on stem cells and tissue engineering. This covers embryonic stem cells, haematopoietic stem cells, skin cells, tissue engineering, genetics and molecular diagnostics. RLS’ facility at Jamnagar primarily focuses on plant biotechnology projects where modern farming methods are being tried in arid areas. In addition to this, Jamnagar also has facilities for carrying out industrial biotechnology research by addressing the biopolymers, biofuels and bio-process development opportunities.
Besides stem cell research, RLS is developing business opportunities in the domains of medical biotechnology, plant biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, contract research and clinical trials.
RLS is in the process of setting up its Cord Blood Repository (CBR) and plans to grow the repository to around 30,000 units over the next two-three years. It has filed about nine patents in India and has been offering few products and services in both medical and plant biotechnology space. With a strong team of scientists and researchers numbering over 100, it already has products and services in medical biotech such as ReliCord, ImmunoRel, AlbuRel, and ReliSeal.
