Location in a rural region has proved to be a problem for many a business school, but the Indian Institute of Science & Management (ISM), Ranchi, has leveraged its position at Pundag (a rural area in the Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand, full of landscapes and greenery all around) to its advantage.
All the curriculum here are designed to impart knowledge, develop specialised skills and foster essential attitudes for the students to grow as competent and responsible managers. It emphasises the conceptual and analytical reasoning and gives the students an insight into the business world and its environment.
Importance is placed on self-learning, creativity and continuous interaction with the faculty, students and practitioners. After their arrival at the institute, the students of the incoming batch go through an induction and socialisation process, which involves interaction with faculty and senior students through briefing sessions regarding programmes.
ISM was established in 1985 under the chairmanship of Dr. Sachhidanand, the then vice-chancellor of Ranchi University. Ii has been offering two-year postgraduate programme in business management to young and bright students since inception. As many as 16 batches of students have passed out from the institute so far. Besides its full-time diploma in business management, the institute also offers a three-year, part-time postgraduate diploma in business management for working professionals. IISM is also active in offering management and entrepreneurship development programmes.
The institute has been rated well as one of the modern b-schools of relevance and the industry is quite supportive of its efforts, as seen by the relatively good placements the institute has been posting year after year. The institute has been updating its courses regularly and has been able to get good permanent faculty on campus and also a good blend of industry and academic faculty from outside to assist in its efforts.
ISM is confident about its future growth and expansion based on its record performance over the years and new opportunities emerging from an expanding HR market.
