The University of Bhavnagar located in the Gulf of Cambay in Gujarat is a small but rowing university established in 1978. The city of Bhavnagar in which it is located is an ancient city of heritage with a flourishing industry. The university itself is small but growing entity. It has facilities of education in the areas of Arts, Commerce, Computer, Conventional-Education, Engineering, Literature, Management, Medical, and Physical sciences. It has 17 Postgraduate department and three constituent colleges. With a sound research base it has central government research institute as recognized institute of research.
The Department of Business Administration was started in June 1994 with the initial financial support of University Grants Commission. Initially the department was started with strength of 30 students and a total number faculty was four. The first batch of the students was put to market in 1996 with a 70 % initial placement and the alumni of the department are serving at senior and responsible positions in government and nongovernmental sector. Gradually in 1996 another batch was included in the Department of Business Administration with a capacity of 30 students. This induction added financial strength to the department and development took positive turn.
Later the independent departmental laboratory was added to the department and a separate computer centre was also added. The Department has developed an exclusive library for MBA students. The department library has an attached reading hall. It has more than 7500 books, 21 periodicals and five newspapers. The department runs a range of programmes including a PhD which has ten students pursuing their doctorate. The university runs its flagship MBA programme a Postgraduate Diploma in Small Scale Industries
Management (PGDSSIM), a Postgraduate Diploma in Disaster Management (PGDDM) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). The Department is well networked with the local industry and it has been placing almost 80 per cent of its students in domestic as well as multinational companies.
