The institute was conceived as an intellectual nerve centre for the co-operative movement and has been functioning as the apex management training institute for over 50 years, catering to the management development, training, research and consultancy needs of various co-operative organisations, government departments and other national bodies.
Started as Co-operative training college in 1947 and was renamed latter as National Co-operative Training College.In 1962 it was further given its name as National Co-operative College and Research Institute (NCCRI). The Institute is functioning with a well-established infrastructure comprising the library, computer unit, auditorium, conference and seminar hall, jubilee hall, several classrooms and well equipped hostels. Faculty and staff housing complex with community centre is also located in excellent environment. One state-of-the-art conference hall will soon be ready as part of the institute.
The mission of VAMNICOM is to facilitate building cadres of professional managers to man key positions in the ever growing number of co-operatives through management development, training, education, research and consultancy. Towards this the institute started a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) and Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (DCBM) Programmes. The institute is also doing and disseminate the same through publications in addition to library retrieval and documentation services. The institute has a strong faculty base and it also draws heavily on the professionals in the co-operative sector and outside to provide state-of-the-art learning modules to its students. The institute faculty have also impressive record of publishing and teaching in international campuses which helps augment the intellectual capital of the institute.
Like any other leading business school, the institute has provided high quality infrastructure and class room facilities along with good IT and other infrastructure to make the learning experience real. It is also active in consulting and management training passing on the research and learning on the campus. The institute looks to future with renewed vigour based on the sharp revival in the co-operative movement which has also become professional.
