The Mumbai based SP Jain belonging to the large group of education institutes led by Bharati Vidyapeeth of Pune is an unique institution of excellence which not only stands apart from its sister institutions of the founding group, but also one of its kind among all the best institutes of the country including even the Indian Institutes of Management, by way of its corporate recognition of its performance. The institute celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006 has set itself apart right from the inception as a professional management institution with sensitivity towards society and one which practices what it teaches. Keeping this spirit alive has been its focus all these years. For instance, globalization is the credo of the Indian companies is what the business schools including SP Jain teach. But in the case of SPJIMR it also means practice of globalization by diversifying abroad. The institute has set up a branch in Dubai and is now looking Singapore for its next location. In Mumbai, it runs a Masters in IT programme in collaboration with Virginia Tech, USA. The institute is also exploring South East Asia, Africa and Central Europe for further campuses
The mission is to be a world class b-school which influences practice and fosters value-based material growth. To achieve this, the institute uses a judicious blend of western efficiency and eastern ethos. The institute runs a 2-year full time residential MBA programme in marketing finance, information management and operations. A separate Centre for Information Technology runs a post graduate programme in information technology and several ‘career change’ programmes in the areas of ERP, e-commerce etc. The Centre for FMB runs a post graduate programme for Family Managed Businesses. The Centre for DOCC (Development of Corporate Citizenship) runs a knowledge base for CSR(corporate social responsibility), conducts research and coordinates the social projects of the Institute. It conducts a unique programme on Political Governance for Women.
The Centre for Executive conducts management development programmes, in-company training and certificate programmes in project management. T runs a special Executive MBA (EMBA) programme in conjunction with leading companies in India
Research: Most of the research is ‘action research’ with a focus on influencing practice in the Indian context. The institute also runs a PhD programme in association with BITS Pilani.
